Category: Starting Block

What’s your Starting Block? Maybe it’s a pact with a friend to get in shape, maybe it’s a mom who took you to softball practice every day or a coach who saw more in you than you saw in yourself. But one thing’s for sure, we all, every one of us, had a starting block–a person, or maybe an event that vaulted us into our love for sport and fitness.

Title Nine’s Starting Block is our way of making sure that we continue to create little starting blocks everyday for at-risk girls in our community. We provide funds for small grassroots organizations that are good at getting these girls off the sidelines and onto the fields.

Within Starting Block we have 4 programs: The grant-making program is called Starting Block Grants. We also have the Bra Brigade, Poster Girls and Lift Certificates.

Thanks to You, More Women Will Run

On Inauguration Day, we pledged to give 9% of sales, online and in stores, to support women running for office. We are proud to share that we raised $15,000 together, to support the non-partisan nonprofit organization, She Should Run.

Thanks to you, we are helping to expand the pool of future female elected leaders. Since the election, She Should Run has welcomed thousands of new women of all parties into their programs–programs which, in the past, have served just a few hundred women.

“The She Should Run team is truly grateful and energized by your support! Know that this donation will go a long way towards our team scaling our services for the over 7,000 new women in our programs now.” – Clare Bresnahan, Executive Director, She Should Run

Getting Girls Off the Sidelines

thumbnail-2At Title Nine we are committed to helping girls and women get off the sidelines and onto the field. We know firsthand that the power of sports and teamwork can shape who we are, and who we grow to become. That’s why we are hosting Back to Sports Fridays this September. Shop at any of our Title Nine stores on Fridays in September and 9% of our sales will be donated to local girls’ or women’s sports teams.

During the month of August, we invited folks in our 23 retail regions to nominate their favorite amateur sports teams. Each store then had the fun-but-difficult job of reading all the nominees’ stories and choosing one winner per store. We were blown away by the amazing stories of female athletes, and the teams that have shaped them! Read on for just a few of the impressive athletes chosen by our stores:
