Hey there, my name is Carly Lederman and i am 18,(my entry is on a couple of entries because it is to long) first of all i would like to start off by saying how much i love title 9. I know that i am only 18 but i love how your magazine empowers mothers and women.(the rest is on the next entry lol)
To surf would fulfill a lifelong dream! I am a 50 year old snowboarder and wakeboarder, and would love to catch a wave on my own board! I want to play on this beautiful board ans swim with the sea turtles. And besides it matches the tattoos on my back.
I have three great loves, my amazing husband Jeremy and my equally amazing two big dogs. I used to live in colorado where I adopted my first dog Serena from a shelter in Denver. She is almost 10years old and is the healthiest, happiest clown of a dog. A few years ago my husband and I adopted a big slobber monster named Hank. Hank is an Italian Mastiff and he is the kindest, most gentle soul. He’s a big boy and already at the age of 5 has had multiple surgeries on his knees and has arthritis in his knees, elbows, and spine. Hank is happiest when he is in the water. The ocean provides Hank with low impact excercise on his big sore joints and keeps him fit and strong. My husband is a surfer and I have always loved being out on the ocean, with a surfboard of my own I would be able to paddle out with Hank, Serena and Jeremy and we would all enjoy excercising together. I look forward running with Hank and my side into the waves and doing laps with a silly brown mastiff at my side. Thanks so Much! -Laura E.
I have tried surfing, once or twice, in Rhode Island, of all places, a million years ago. Recently I was in Maui and thought that would like to try again. Looks like would be a killer ab workout and probably a lot more fun than crunches in the gym.
I am also looking at this thinking my niece in Mass. would love to try surfing as well, can’t wait to take her along!
This is my dream. At 51, I’m a wife, a mother and live hundreds of miles from
the coast. I have surfed only once in my life, at 50, yet since that day
I was hooked, it is my passion, my destiny, my goal to become a surfer. Some people say they need someone to complete them. I just need my surfboard!!!
I’d like to win the awesome board for my best friend who is waging her third battle with cancer. During her upcoming treatments, it would be a symbol of hope she can hold onto and would encourage her that better days are ahead. I want the board to represent the promise of a new adventure where she feels the ocean breeze in her face, the warmth of the sun on her back, the taste of salty seaspray in her mouth, and knows the loving support of her family and friends as we cheer her to catch the next wave.
Why My Wife Deserves This Sweet Surfboard
My wife, Margaret, who just turned 40 this week, has a sweet soul and a rockin’ body. A few weeks ago–staring down the barrel of 40–she signed up for a “Couch to 5K” running program and has been so dedicated. For her birthday, I gave her a Title Nine catalog and an unofficial $200 gift card to pick out new clothes to wear when we vacation on Pawley’s Island, SC this summer. Last year, we rented a surfboard and our sons Cary “Surfin’ Bird” (age 5) and Joe “Dune Doggy” (age 8) learned to surf. This year, I would love to give Margaret that sweet board so she could join us and learn what it feels like to catch a wave.
Thanks Sincerely,
Glenn DiNella

I am a woman of Title IX. I conquer the waves of life with passion and power. When turmoils curl behind me I walk confidently to the nose and ride in beautiful style. My footprints on earth are small in pursuit of a more sustainable living. I am inspired by countless women who have gone before and live to inspire young women to pick up when I have left off. I hope to share this board with all the versatile women in my community who carve out active lives filled with determination and fun.
One of my life goals: to learn to surf…not necessarily be good at it or excel, but to just learn how to paddle out, get into position, and go for whatever wave the ocean brings me (hopefully a small one!). To have the chance to try to surf that wave…getting my nerve up to paddle like mad and be able to stand up long enough to enjoy the ride. Life brings us opportunities to experience all the time…we just need to be open and willing to break out of our comfort zone so we can continue to learn new things. I am turning 40 this year…and have decided that this is the time to break away from my usual outdoor activities and achieve my surfing goal. What a sweet deal it would be to have my own surfboard to continue to work on the new skills I’ve learned!
I have a bedspread that this matches perfect! How nice to have it hanging behind my headboard….Ah the sweet feeling to slide into my bed (in Virginia) and remember what it was like to be back living in beautiful Balboa, CA, where the water sparkles, the sweet wind breezes and the off-shore sky shines. With the only 8 hours (of sleep) I have to myself away from my 3 boys (ages 2, 4 and 6), I can look at my wall and slip into dreaming about the soft rolls of the ocean waves. Beautiful to look at…beautiful to ride…so theraputic!
