Wanna win this sweet surfboard?
The contest period has ended. Thank you for all the amazing entries. Stay tuned over the next few days for the announcement of our winners!
We worked with our friends over at Carve Designs to create a one-of-a-kind T9er surfboard (shaped by Entropy) for one of you lucky ladies to win. Here’s all we’re asking – dazzle us with your creativity by telling us why YOU deserve this sweet 7′ sustainably-made ride.
Would you like to fulfill a life-long dream to catch a wave? Use it as a surf deco coffee table, or save drowning children in faraway oceans? Whatever the cause, tell us in 99 words or less by posting a comment below.
Share your words by June 1st, 2009 for a chance to win the surfboard awesomeness. Fret not, ’cause we’ll be giving away 2 prizes to the runners-up ($100 gift card + Team T9 membership).

Life is moving backwards! Nearly 53, my new hobby is entertaining possibilities for physical challenge as I age. After two marathons at 50 and 51, my biggest reward was women telling me they were inspired to run. This year, a century ride. So…. I’d go to Hawaii and learn to surf. Possibly not an award-winning statement, but it’s in the interest of inspiring over-50 women everywhere to DO, no observe. At 43, I sat in the sun in Hawaii with umbrella drinks. Nothing against umbrella drinks, but at 53 I’d PARTICIPATE on that gorgeous surfboard!
Our only child who was born in the hot desert of Las Vegas was always happiest in the water. She has been attending the Univ. of Hawaii for the past 2 years and has taken up surfing and was “discovered” by the locals in Waikiki to be fit for tandem surfing. She and her partner has competed in local tandem surfing events and come this Aug. has set their goals high and will be competing at the World Championship Tandem surfing competition during the annual Duke Fest. All of this time she has been practicing her solo and tandem surfing thru the generosity of people lending her their surfboards. She has mentioned an observation she made, “Did you know I’m the only competitor that doesnt have their own surfboard?”
to which we replied that we were doubly proud of her. If the board was awarded to her I’m sure that she will truly cherish and create wonderful memories with it, the way it was meant to be.
Thinking about the board I realized up to this point I’ve been predominately a land athlete. Other than some open water swims from triathlons, I haven’t really ventured into aquatic playgrounds. I wonder where it could take me- both in the water and in myself? Sports have always allowed me to find out more about who I am- suddenly I am intrigued, inspired by just what this sport could teach me. And what could I inspire in others. Could this be my next adventure? My next passion?
Sand, surf and sky- a new adventure is waiting out there.
S-Someone once told me I looked like a surfer.
U-Unbenounced to me, I’d later marry him
R-Really would like to live up to the claim.
F-For me, it’s more than just looking like one.
I’m 44, from Dana Point, CA, and love surfing. I have raised 2 incredible sons, the youngest graduating from high school on June 18. What will I do with my “emptynestedness”???
I have a small pod of women whom I surf with regularly and we love to teach other adventurous women the art of surfing. I also enjoy mentoring young women in my “Surf Angel Sessions”. I hope to do more of this, and this sweet board would make me look good doing it!
(PLUS the color matches my eyes, my car, my kayak AND my mountain bike!)
You want creativity! Well here is my honesty…please keep reading. I would kiss and hug this surfboard endlessly if i won it. I would post pictures of it to my facebook account. I would sew it its very own surf sock. But most importantly I would SURF IT like a rockstar! I have been borrowing and using old beat-up men’s boards for years and it is for two reasons; one I love catching waves and two because I am teacher and can’t justify buying a new surfboard when my students don’t have money for binder paper. Plus this board has to be mine so it can surfed in beautiful Lake Tahoe. Yes wind waves bring us ankle-biters and hip-huggers that make you shreak with giddiness because even though the water is freezing…there are no sharks!!!!!
Every Sunday I go boogie boarding with the Boogie Woogie Soup Sisters of Cayucos, Ca. The group formed 5 years ago and every Sunday we meet at the beach to boogie board. Our ages range from 73 to 3, with the average age around 50. Most of the women ride the soup, that’s how we got our name. Some Sundays we have more than 35 women, yelling, screaming, riding the waves and getting salted. I would love to win the surfboard to share with my salt water sisters, so that we can add surfing to our fun.
I raised my children in California, and we absolutely fell in love with the beach. My two sons started surfing at a very young age with their used, very chipped up surf boards. That didn’t seem to matter to them. My younger son had a liver transplant which limited his activites and my older son passed away last November from pancreatic cancer. I had moved to the midwest and now own a Tiki Bar, and would dream of winning this Surf board for the great memories I have and perfect decor for my bar.
I deserve this surfboard because I embody what the original Title 9 represents – gender equality in sports! My boyfriend taught me to surf three years ago, and ever since then I’ve been longboarding every spare moment in the cold northwestern Oregon waters. Since the start, my passion for surfing surprised me and everyone I knew – cold and sharks couldn’t stop me, neither could the lack of women in the water. Two weeks ago my boyfriend bought his first short board, and I realized right away that to keep up with him on the steepest, fastest waves, I would need an upgrade. Title Nine – send me this surf board and let one more Oregon chick surfer really be able to compete!
Title nine on the line…..
telling me “ Get with it
live a little bit.”
I want to believe
That I can achieve,
something that would be
fun for eternity.
The water is and always will be,
where I can restore my harmony.
A peaceful place to rest my soul
helps me clearly see my goal.
In this life, that moves so fast
Trying hard not to forget my past
I want to be out on the water
With my sons and with my daughters .
Title nine give me a chance
Mother of five wants to dance.
