Mom was born in 1927 on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu of Hawaiian/Chinese ancestry. Happy girl. Simple dress. No shoes. Tough life – many children and few resources. December 7, 1941 and life changed forever. Beautiful & talented, she became a member of a dance troupe from the islands, dancing and singing for the fighting boys in the Pacific Theater. Exciting life. Cancer took that life in 2008. Her Hawaiian soul was returned to Kailua Bay accompanied by chanting voices and guided by the spirits of her loving ancestors.
My son and I would lovingly paddle that beautiful Carve surfboard out into Kailua Bay to visit mom at her resting place. Mahalo.
I’m entering this contast for my mom. She grew up in Daytona Beach area and surfed when she was my age. My grandmother still lives there and when we visit my mom tries to teach me to surf. The only thing is she bought me a used board that is too small and to light so it’s hard for me to learn on. My grandfather had a board customized for my mom at my age and she wishes she still had it for me, but someone took it and never gave it back. She just can’t aford a new board for me right now. If she wins this new board it would be great for the both of us. Marliese
I recently rescued a dog. I found Mattie online; a Floridian, her family lost their home to foreclosure and left her behind. She made the long journey north in the back of a rescue Winnebago.
My girl is quite the water-baby. She swims, chases waves, and eats all manner of sea creature. We took an inaugural kayak yesterday… she looks fab in her doggie PFD. I’d like to complete our lexicon of aqua-activities by getting her (and myself!) on a surfboard. I’ve surfed before, but I suspect she’s better than I’ll ever be. One way to find out…
I am so many people. I am a mother and a wife. I am a scientist; a coworker, planner, supervisor. But I am also, simply, me. I find myself when I put on my running shoes, or jump on my bike; or hike through the mountains or play at the beach. Then I return to the many people that I am while still being tied firmly to myself. If only we could all venture onto a surfboard and connect to our souls. And then share our essence with those around us.
Your surfboard inspired me to bake a cake! Our Mother’s Day brunch finale was a chocolate genoise layer cake filled with raspberry buttercream. An ethereal cloud of blue meringue buttercream spotted with whimsical black flowers topped the cake. After a celebratory ride in the Pacific, this board would serve as my bakery countertop. My small bakery will promise to bake cakes that taste as good as they look. Imagine white and black tile floors, chrome and glass display cases, a sweet surfboard countertop and a comfortable loveseat with splashy blue pillows where couples can choose their wedding cake design.
Hi Good People of Titlenine,
My ten year old daughter Sara would like to win the Carve surfboard. So, I let her read the contest rules and this is what she wrote. “I am a major surfer! I like rip off the top and some times I even catch air. I won Pipe Masters once!” She may have exaggerated just a wee bit.
Aloha
At the end of our girl trip to California, picking up our new surfboard! I would require my daughters and my mom to make it a yearly adventure!. We will have fun surfing and make it a yearly trip together!. Thanks for the chance!
As I have surfed the waters of Lake Michigan, my passion for surfing has grown greatly. Lake Michigan isn’t usually thought of as a surfing capital, but it has become the “Third Coast.” Each summer I enjoy surfing with my daughter and teaching our girlfriends and younger children on the beach this fantastic sport. There is nothing better than sharing what I love most with other eager wannabees. Since it’s challenging to teach others on my one and only simple surfboard, another surfboard would mean more sharing and teaching the joy that “Title Nine” has provided for us!
I am a 52 year old and have klead a full life: giving, helping and never taking. Until now…Raising three sons and the stress of this ever changing world, get s to me at times. How do I cope? I cope by going to the beaches of Cape Cod. In the off-season I remember those breakers and brezes and when on vacation actually Boogi-Board a lot. I have never had the guts to learn how to surf..but with this prize you can fullfill my dream! I’ve always wanted to…now I need Title Nine to assist in the “gettin through” of those stressful times!
Well, not sure if I deserve it, but I am 48 years old and have always wanted to learn how to surf! I have 3 beautiful neices one in particular who needs to learn how to have fun! If I won I would take all three on a summer trip to my favorite beach in Long Beach.. Bolsa Chica…with a stop in La jola CA for some surf lessons.. I want them to not be afraid or think it’s ever to late to try for a dream.. No matter who tells you it won’t happen!! It’s for Catie, Lexi and Analye..
