39 going on 40…no worries. Mother to 2 excellent kids who think they are hilarious…and they are. Wife to a hyperactive Australian, which should earn me lots of points. Marathon runner who loves a new challenge as long as it ends with a chocolate chip cookie. Taking the kids to Australia in December to meet the family and play in the surf. How cool would it be to surf like one of the locals! Not sure if I can become a pro in 3 weeks, but willing to give it a go on a T9er surfboard! I am a teacher and my 5 year old wants to know why I can’t have a cool job like “deep sea diver” or “firegirl”. Maybe “pro-surfer” would impress him. Hmmmm……..
Hi. I really like trying new, different, and sort of challenging sports. I’ve never been surfboarding, it looks like a really cool, and fun sport to get into though. I watched people surfing on tv. I thought it looked like so much fun when I saw them surfing and I love how the people talked about how they got started with surfing and where their favorite beach was to surf. Also when they first started to surf it was really interesting, cool, and inspiring to me. That’s what made me also want to have surfing as a new sport. I love swimming a lot and I love just love to be outside especially when there’s a sunset because the one thing that I love the most about being outside are sunsets. It would be so awesome to take up surfing on this board in the sunset. Thank you! 🙂
It has always been a dream of mine to be able to surf. When I lived in California my older brother took surf lessons in the summer. I was always too young. When I was finally old enough, we moved to Texas. When I am allowed to use my brother’s surf board I paddle around with it in my pool. When I’m in the pool with a surf board I feel as if I’m in the Pacific Ocean, again. This summer we’re going on vacation to California, I will be so happy if I can surf with that board.
I’m a police officer for a large city in Florida and have seen and done quite a bit over the years both as an officer and in my personal life. But when the contest email showed up, I thought, “I live less than ten minutes from the ocean, and I have never gone surfing!” “How cool would it be to take lessons on a board won from Title Nine?!”
Remember: Life is so short. Live every day like it will be your last and tell the people you care about, how much you love them! And stop sweating the small stuff people!!!
The opportunity to win a specially designed surfboard is special to me. I have been a single Mom since 1994. I have worked full-time since I’ve been 20 years old and have successfully supported by 19 year old, who is now a college student. My daughter, my only, has asthma, is hypothyroid and diagnosed two years ago with Type I diabetes. We are very close and she is a healthy girl despite all this and has always been physically active. I have always worked out in one way or another. A year ago, I began running and have ran eight 5K races since then. I had never run before that in my life! Now my daughter enters these events for charitable causes with me. I believe that my being physically active has shown my daughter how important it is to have physical activity in her life. She has been a lifeguard since 15 and has a “save” from a high school meet. Winning this surfboard would be a visual reminder of the positive benefits of participating regularly in any kind of physical activity. Like most Moms, the tangible rewards are few, but the intangible benefits are many.
I cut the surface paddling out
The sun beats the back of my legs
I hold on like a barnacle as the waves crash
My arms scrape the salt water from the board
The air crackles with power as the ocean surges under me
And then
I am the eye of the hurricane
Riding, free, at peace, one with the water…
I named my Web company “Nalu” — “surfing” in Hawaiian — in honor of the spirituality of surfing and my love of the water. The surfboard would look great in my office with the wall mural of a surfer in a curled wave; and provide inspiration for a woman on a journey.
I believe I could use this surfboard to its fullest because I want to take my dogs surfing! Not only will I benefit from enjoying this stellar board, but my golden retriever and black lab will enjoy catching some waves and rays just as much as I will. Maybe they don’t know how to climb onto a surfboard as of yet, but if I win this board, I will get the chance to teach them!
As a wildlife biologist studying endangered spotted owls in old growth forests, I am an Earth child, rooted and grounded in land. I watched surfers with admiration/trepidation as they casted graceful arcs through powerful waves, but remained intimidated by all things marine.
During a recent trip to Chile, I surmounted my perceived limitations and surfed the legendary breaks of Pichilemu. I realized that roots grow in water as well as land; my fears subsided to excitement at finding a new ecosystem to play in, study and protect. I am starting graduate school this fall on the California coast, and this surfboard would remind me of my commitment to the ocean as a playground and refuge for all beings.
I fell in love with surfing 7 years ago when I took a lesson in Costa Rica. I had only one other opportunity that trip to rent a board for an hour, and I haven’t been surfing since, due to several thwarted attempts, despite a burning desire. I’m a surfer in my soul, sans equipment. I can feel the waves with that beautiful board!
My birthday’s coming up, too!
My name is Nicole. I am an art teacher at a disadvantaged high school on Long Island. The artwork on surfboards has always intrigued me. Every year I do a surfboard design contest with my students. We study the trends and designers of surfboards. We study the evolution of the boards and the art. My students take the designs from concept to ‘completion’. (We make life-size surfboards out of foam core and paint, marker, or airbrush on the designs.) I have posters of surfboards and a beautiful slide show that I present to the classes. I would love to have an actual board to show them while we were doing this project. They would be fascinated! In seven years of teaching, I have never come across a student who has owned a surfboard. The kids would think I was the coolest teacher ever if I won this board!!!!!!
