Chapstick, Not Lipstick

Our kind of make-up kit

Our make-up kit is different. That’s because we don’t use professional models. Our gals are nurses, surf instructors, teachers, moms, business owners, scientists, and everyday athletes. We shoot them doing the sports they love; often with their own boards, bikes, and backpacks. When our “models” arrive at a photo shoot they pull their hair back, slather on the sunscreen and get ready to play.

By Women for Women

At Title Nine, apparel is just part of what we do. Our founder Missy recently put into words what fuels our actions each and every day.

We’ve designed our business to inspire women to lead, to risk, and to own. We run our business as a team sport that brings out the best in ourselves, our suppliers, and our customers.

We Are…

We are...

We are a small, Northern California company.

We are a happy band of product users and product makers, math girls and data geeks, spread sheet whizzes and color story divas.

We are one of the very few, women-owned, multi-store retailers in the United States.

We wish this were not the case.

We often work while we’re still sweaty.

We also wish this were not the case, but cannot help ourselves.

We use real people as our models, real people who have real jobs and real families and do really cool sports and go on really crazy adventures.

This makes for photo shoots that are a lot of fun and sometimes a little crazy.

We are a group of women and a few really extraordinary men who think that the way we do business is also the way we change ourselves, our communities, and our world.

T9 Behind the Scenes: Winter ’16

Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Wyoming. It seems we hit nearly every chilly spot in the Western United States searching for the perfect winter photo locations. Lucky for us, our team of photographers and “models” are up for anything: including snowy pre-dawn hikes, altitude sickness, way too much coffee, and of course, light-up turkey hats.

Triumph. Fail. Just Get in the Arena!

Teddy Roosevelt’s famous In the Arena speech has been firing us up lately, so we asked some of the gals at Title Nine to share a time they took a risk, ignored the critics, and – whether triumph or fail – got in the arena.

Kristina, Magnificent Merchant

“The only fall sports for girls at my middle school were volleyball or cheerleading, but I wanted to try out for soccer. The boys’ soccer coach discouraged me from playing, but I tried out for the team anyway, and made it! I went on to become an all-county player and the team captain in high school.”

Erin, Chief People Person

“I had always wanted to learn improv, but being in front of an audience without a safety net felt pretty scary. I finally decided to jump in and try one class. I’m so glad I took that risk! I ended up loving it and have been learning, performing, and teaching improv ever since.” (more…)
