Gift Outside the Box

Giftoutsidethebox

BEST GIFT EVER: mine was from my daughter. It wasn’t in a box. It was a day for the two of us, mountain biking. Riding behind her, trying to ride her line, until I realized, sad-proudly, that I could not. Discovering a new trail, learning how to way-find with new, digital tools, getting lost and then finding our way…together. The gift of time, precious, runaway time. It can’t be wrapped or saved, but it lasts. Boy, does it last.

And, then there’s that KitchenAid mixer. It WAS in a box. I received it 30 years ago, when I could barely afford a knife and a fork, and I still use it today. The stories it can tell. The memories it holds.

And yours? What was your best gift given or received? Could a box even contain it?? How do you #GiftOutsideTheBox?

Our Kind of Powder Room

Each time I step outdoors, into the stillness and silence, I’m reminded that this, the great outdoors, is both counselor and comforter. Outdoors I am my best self, and remarkably, my kids are too. But still the phone cajoles, the inbox groans, the computer insists and that nagging list of to-do’s grows even longer. (more…)

How do we swim against this tide of insufferable behavior rather than being consumed by it? Are we, am I, becoming the sum of the indignities perpetrated against me and my gender or are we something much more powerful than that? I believe it is the latter.

Swimming against the tide

In small towns and big cities, in red states and blue, across this crazy and complicated nation of ours, change IS happening. It’s happening quietly, without fanfare or Twitter storms. It’s being engineered by women who are either doubling down or just plain fed up. It’s being led by women who are moving and making. They are changing the state of our nation, and I, for one, am thankful for these women and the women like them. They’re women who #wearthepants. (more…)

The Title Nine Olympics

T9 Olympics

At Title Nine we believe that sports and fitness can be fun and transformational. Our HR manager leads Tabata classes in the company gym, the distribution center trains for 5K’s together, our stores host running clubs and hiking groups. And once a year, we all come together for a day of teamwork, athletics, and a lot of silliness at the Title Nine Olympics. (more…)

Ashley Korenblat has long had a passion for mountain biking. She’s been involved in every aspect of it, from racing and touring, to advocating and working in the industry. Since the eighties, she has carved out a name for herself as a woman in a male-dominated sport. We wanted to know more about what drives her. (more…)
