Before I moved to Wyoming, where there is usually too much snow to do this on Thanksgiving, a bunch of friends would gather at a university field and play Ultimate Frisbee on Thanksgiving morning. It was a great workout with friends before the big feast.

On thanksgiving day while the turkey is cooking and husband is playing flag football, I run my annual 5k that the city of sandy helds, being cold in November in Utah I think it discourage a lot of people but not me I love it

Our family sponsors an annual "Turkey Bowl" for all of our friends on Thanksgiving morning where we have a flag football game! Mostly for the kids, the adults join in as well. It's very inspiring on a crisp cool morning! In Boise, Idaho

In Jacksonville, FL on Thanksgiving morning, the Outback Steakhouse sponsors a half marathon and 6K . It is put on by !st Place Sports who collect food or cash for the Mandarin Food Bank. It's a great way to start the day--if I have the miles, I run the half. If not, it's the 6K for me. Happy Thanksgiving :0)

Since I was a kid we always went on a Thanksgiving hike in the hills before the evening feast. My parents and us 4 sisters. No matter what we were all going through (and let me tell ya... 4 girls under one roof make for a lot of wacky harmones and drama) we'd grab those down vests and boots and get out and walk. Now that I have my own teenage daughter, my husband and I (and any family around) keep up the tradition. It cuts through all the holiday hype, clears out our brains and makes room for realizing all that we have to be thankful for.

So excited to be sharing a new tradition with friends and family. Our city (Roseville, CA) is having it's first Turkey Trot. Hats off to UltraRunner.net, who is sponsoring the run for the first time. We'll all get a good a.m. run/walk (5 or 10K) then go enjoy turkey with the family. We've been asked to bring canned food for the hungry, so there's a good cause, as well. My 69-year-old dad (from Montana) is joining in, and I know some 7 and 8-year-olds attempting the 5K distance. Go 2nd graders! Happy Turkey Day to all!

My daughter and I will do both the local Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving, (and get our free pie at the finish line :) and the Noodleini 5K with the best post run snacks, on the following Sunday. This is about our 4th or 5th season of running these together...what a fun way to spend a holiday weekend with my just-turned-10 year old. (And yes, she is faster than mom...go, "Little Runner Girl" :) !

We're starting a new tradition this year: our local health club is closed, so we are planning to go for a 36 mile bike ride circling the few towns in our area. I live in New England, so we are planning to go in all kinds of weather (read, temperatures) except heavy rain or snow. I won't feel so guilty indulging in an extra glass of wine or a piece of pie later in the day!! We will leave at sunrise and return in time for a late breakfast.

My tradition is to sneak out with my dogs while my family is still sleeping. We enjoy a long morning hike through the BLM trails here in Northern Nevada. There's nothing like having your dogs with you in the wide open spaces with the blue sky above. Then we head home to cook up a great comfort meal to be enjoyed with family, eat till we bust and then of course we have to take the traditional after dinner waddle through then neighbor hood.
