although i'm only 12 i would still love to be the owner of this board. i am not in an area where i can surf but i would use it to inspire me. title nine, both the law and the catalog represent women taking control of their lives, and i believe this surfboard is a perfect symbol of that. so with that board on my wall i would wake every morning ready for life.

I've surfed for one week each of the past three summers in York, Maine. This summer, I really want to get into it so I need my own board. With my first year of pharmacy school down and five more to go, surfboards aren't really in my budget right now. There's no dream I have for the summer greater than that of getting up early every morning, driving to the beaches I live near in southeastern Mass. and Rhode Island, doing some yoga and then surfing the day away on my T9er surfboard.

Here I am a woman of advancing age, 67 to be exact, living within one block
of the mighty Atlantic on a beautiful sandy beach where the surfers abound
on run of the mill boards. Oh how nifty to give up conventional wisdom, and
storm the beach with a new board and challenge somebody or maybe beg for
lessons. My surfing grandsons 21 and 22 will think I am cool. The heck with
golf, riding bikes, marathon swimming at the Y, lead me to the "sea" and set me
free.

Well I got my cataloge on June 2nd....but I'm going to post my story regardless.

Although the contest is for me to write about why I would like the surf board, I am writing for my sister.

My sister has always wanted to learn to surf. She is so beautiful inside and out. She is out of the country right now in Mindanao Philippines doing work with her college class to resolve conflict in certain regions. She is working with abused children, planting food and cleaning areas that are filth ridden. I hadn't heard from her in a couple days and began to worry. Her email to me this morning was upsetting. She was in a situation in the Maguindanao province where 3 men came into the hut she was in and questioned her. The woman who was translating began to grow nervous and asked them to leave and they complied. As my sister was falling asleep she heard bombs go off. I am anxiously waiting for the end of this trip in 4 weeks before anything else happens. After that she heads to Oxford for 3 weeks for a completely different experience.

I would love to give my sister a gift like this, it is something she would cherish and would become excellent at just like everything else she does in her life.

after the contest comment:
I've loved these glimpses into the lives of surfing sisters- our strivings and gratefulness, confidence and dreams, expressed in poems, quips and late-night musings. I'm impressed with our truthfullness and creativity. Wow, what amazing people we are, women who surf!
