You made my day! What you wrote is exactly how I would want someone to describe us. I can have my doubts about whether we are really succeeding or not. I often only notice the times when we miss the mark, so thank you, thank you, thank you for letting me know that we are still on the right track.

I lesson I just learned last week:

If I'm not feeling 100% (and I'm aware of this fact but go ahead anyway), I have no business being on the horses back.

She's feels I'm not 100% and I spend the whole time yanking her around by her mouth trying to get her to do something I'm only 1/2 invested in myself.

That was a bad day - and her mouth was sore when we were done. :(

BUT - that will NEVER happen again.

It's not like a solo sport like snow shoeing, which I love. If I'm at 80%, it's only me that suffers. But it's a whole different ballgame when two of us are involved.

xoxo

Missy Park: you have no idea how your catalog has inspired me. I don't know if you remember, but I was the woman that gave you a big hug in downtown Denver years ago. I wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the image you put forth about women every time you publish a catalog. I have passed them around and told other women - look at this! Your catalogs image of women has lit my world. The sporty, tough attitude. The idea of strong women, translated to the reality of the FACT that we are strong, beautiful, capable: I could go on. I relish seeing every new catalog. I love what you promote. I am so grateful for what you do. Thanks again. This is my start to continuing this year strong, capable and grateful. Best wishes to you.

Occupation: student, best friend, role model

In her free time: she enjoys hanging with family, snowboarding, running with friends, and exploring the world

Would like to: live in another country, compete in a triathlon, enjoy life and make a difference

Your magazine always inspires me to work harder at playtime and it was great to see a girl skateboarding this month!

I will take my second long distance bike tour
I will finish or almost, finally finish my book
I wil become more confident in my Zumba teaching
I will spoil my 10 year old dog rotten beyond belief.

There:)

I've cut out and taped the inside front cover of your latest catalog to my bathroom mirror. Those words will be a daily reminder and motivator for me to take charge. I'm good at listening, validating, cheerleading, encouraging and motivating other people--everyone except myself. By simply writing this comment, I've already started. Stepped out of my usual "should do / could do" and DONE it...today!

I think that training for resilience in children is mostly about training the parents to be slow in reacting and when we do get involved, do it by asking the child her strategy for how she is going to solve the problem/do better next time. Parents need to get out of the way of their children! I was always good about giving my toddlers lots of freedom at the playground, but I noticed when they started school that I was getting too involved in their work. I learned to back off especially after another mom noted that by getting involved, we are denying our children the thrill of victory. Yes, resilience is about getting back on the horse, but the flip side is that the child also 100% owns the successes! Watching a child work through and solve her own dilemmas and achieve her own success is a beautiful thing. A classic book on the topic of resilience is :The Blessing of a Skinned Knee by Wendy Mogel.

I'm so, glad to hear from another mom the importance of letting our kids fail!!! Another important piece is letting them see us fail and persevere. So many times I catch myself wanting the easy life and that is not what will teach our kids to become mighty men and women of this world.

"because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Romans 5:3-4)

Thanks for the encouragement to stretch ourselves and our children!!!
